Control of Turbulent Flow over a Circular Cylinder Using Tabs

In this study, we investigate tabs applied to turbulent flow over a circular cylinder for the reductions of mean drag and lift fluctuations. Tabs are small thin passive devices attached upper lower surfaces near separation. The Reynolds number considered is Re= 3900, based on free-stream velocity diameter. Large eddy simulations performed using dynamic global subgrid-scale eddy-viscosity model. A parametric study carried out find optimal tab configuration minimizing Parameters height (ly) width (lz) tabs, spanwise spacing (?z) between them. With parameters, coherence vortex shedding behind effectively disrupted, resulting in three-dimensional vortical structures varying direction. As result, strength wake successfully weakened, fluctuations significantly reduced by 14% 95%, respectively, with ly/d=0.2, lz/d=0.3, ?z/d=4, where d
